Data Commons for Switzerland (online event)

Prospects for data cooperation beyond the market and the state

With the research of Nobel Prize winner and economist Elinor Ostrom, the concept of the "commons" has received new attention. The communal management of a shared resource can also be applied to data.

In his online presentation, André Golliez, President of the Swiss Data Alliance, explains how the commons approach can be applied to data cooperations. The starting point is a study on the collaborative management of geodata carried out by the Swiss Data Alliance on behalf of the Conference of Cantonal Geoinformation and Cadastral Offices (KGK).

On behalf of the KGK, Hans-Andrea Veraguth, cantonal surveyor of Graubünden, will outline the necessity and possible future scenarios for "geocommons" in Switzerland. Tom Kleiber, Managing Director of SWITCH, will also highlight the great relevance of digital commons for education, research and innovation in Switzerland.

  • 12:20 Prospects for "geocommons" in Switzerland (Hans-Andrea Veraguth)

  • 12:30 Commons for education, research and innovation (Tom Kleiber)
