Data Commons for Switzerland
Data commons have great potential for Switzerland's digital future - for geodata, for the education sector and elsewhere. After the Swiss Data Alliance conducted a study on "geocommons" on behalf of the Conference of Cantonal Geoinformation and Cadastre Offices in Switzerland, it is now exploring the topic in greater depth in various other formats.
At an online event, André Golliez, President of the Swiss Data Alliance, Hans-Andrea Veraguth from the KGK and Tom Kleber from SWITCH spoke about the opportunities and challenges of data commons in Switzerland.
Take-Aways
Data commons are long-term projects - they require a clear vision, a step-by-step approach and staying power,
First and foremost, data commons need a clear framework, especially with regard to the purpose, the participants and the use cases: What common problems do you want to solve (with the help of data)? Which stakeholders may/should participate in the data commons? What are the first top use cases and pilot projects?
Data commons are (relatively) new and complex entities - they offer plenty of material for application-oriented research.
