How much Switzerland does the government cloud need?

Panel discussion on the public law view of the expert opinion for the City of Zurich

Since August 1, 2022, a new directive of the City of Zurich has regulated the use of external cloud services. It is based on a decision by the City Council, which is based on a legal opinion by the law firm Laux Lawyers. The organizational units of the City of Zurich may also use public cloud services if the outsourced information is classified as having an increased need for protection, summarizes Inside IT. The expert opinion also concludes that the US Cloud Act does not contradict this analysis. There were also critical voices on the legal opinion, as expressed in the podcast "Datenschutz-Plaudereien"(part 2 of the podcast is specifically dedicated to the warranty responsibility, part 3 to the secret service issue).

With this panel discussion, the Swiss Data Alliance , in collaboration with the Bern University of Applied Sciences, aims to contribute to the debate. The focus will be on constitutional and administrative law issues. The target audience is an interested lay public.
