Swiss Data Alliance launches intensive course for data stewards

"Data Collaboration for the Common Good" - an intensive course for data stewards on this topic will take place in Zurich and Bern from May 12 to 16, 2025. The focus is on the reuse of data across organizational boundaries.

How can data contribute to solving societal challenges - and where are suitable data sources? The role of data stewards is crucial when it comes to the exchange and reuse of data, for example in collaborations between private companies and public administration.

To promote data collaboration for the common good, the Swiss Data Alliance has launched a five-day intensive course for data stewards in collaboration with The Data Tank and Opendata.ch. The course will take place on site in Zurich and Bern from May 12 to 16, 2025 and is aimed at stakeholders from business, civil society, research and administration. During the course, participants will develop their own data reuse or data collaboration project.

The main lecturer on the course is Stefaan Verhulst, who has been instrumental in shaping the new understanding of the role of data stewards:

individuals or teams within data-holding organizations who are empowered to proactively initiate, facilitate and coordinate data collaboratives toward the public interest

"Wanted: Data Stewards"

Verhulst is co-founder of the GovLab in New York and the Data Tank in Brussels. He also advises the European Commission's expert group on data sharing between companies and public authorities.

In addition to Stefaan Verhulst, a number of guest lecturers will present use cases on data use and data collaboration. The number of participants is limited to 20. Interested parties can contact the Swiss Data Alliance without obligation(e-mail).
